The theme for the meeting was “Independence”, which was very relevant, considering Indonesian Independence Day was the day before. The meeting was hosted by none other than our very own club president, CC Rina. She emphasized the importance of independence not only on a macro level, but also on a micro level in our personal day to day lives.

The arrangement of the meeting was different than usual, with a prepared speech first. TM Zenny opened with her 2nd Basic Manual Project (Organize Your Speech) titled “Finding a Soulmate”. Her speech was both entertaining and practical. She highlighted both the difficulties and strategies of finding a soulmate and provided 5 practical steps to achieving this goal. She was evaluated by our Division G Governor, ACG ALB David.

The table topics session followed, which was conducted by CC CL Rama. It was very entertaining and put a different twist on the standard impromptu speeches. Speakers were put into different challenging situations and had to use their quick thinking and speaking skills to turn an obstacle into a win. The situations ranged from coming home late to an angry wife to expressing your love to a stranger in the vegetable section of a supermarket.

The second and final prepared speech for the evening came from TM Andi, our VP of Membership. He was also working on his 2nd Basic Manual Project (Organize Your Speech). His speech was titled “Scars”. He shared how life sometimes teaches us lessons which aren’t really fair and they leave scars. He illustrated his point by telling us about a serious motorcycle accident he was in which left him with … scars!. He was evaluated by CC Jessica, our VP of Education.

The position for best Table Topics speaker for the evening was shared between ACG CL Boon and ACG ALB David. The best evaluator was ACG ALB David. Finally, the person who won the most coveted award of the evening, the best prepared speaker, was TM Andi.

Overall, it was a fun and memorable meeting.

INSPIRATION DAY

On the 21July 2010, we had meeting in our usual venue, Kemiri Resto, jalan Embong Kemiri 4, Surabaya. The topic of the day was “INSPIRATION”. As to inspire everyone in the house, the impromptu table topic session was led by David Pranata ALB ACB with his various topics to inspire others.

Participating Toastmasters are required to inspire the audience to do many things, like spending more time with their family or to exercise more. As it happens, later that day, the award for best table topic speaker fell to the hands of our own Rama Tidball and a guest, Tim Arwine.
Moving on to the best part of the day, the prepared speech session featured two speakers, TM Liestya and TM Andi. TM Liestya as the first speaker presents her 5th Basic Manual project and TM Andi with his first project, the Ice Breaker. The later was awarded with the best speaker award by the end of the meeting.

Lastly, after a generous dose of food and drinks, the Toastmasters meeting was happily closed. We had plenty of fun that night, and we hope to repeat the fun in the following meeting, August the 4th, 2010! Feel free to join us there! ^^

MoM 30 June: "Days Gone By"

We have many reasons to celebrate this meeting, especially it's been exactly 6 years since the first and the oldest Toastmasters club in Surabaya was born ^^... For this, we can't thank CTM Dave and ACG CL Yong Boon Kok enough for their initiation, enthusiasm and endless dedication.. Because of their action 6 yrs ago, we are able to learn from each other today through this extraordinary club and we have become better leaders and communicators.. -*Many thanks, Dave & Boon*-
Preparing

When celebrating this special event, we chose a special venue. This time, we've got to experience a new atmosphere at Tompotika Food Centre, Manyar. I've heard many calls from other members asking the direction to get there at last minute, however they managed to arrive earlier before the meeting started.

Great music from i-Pod and toy-like speakers greeted every of us when we entered the room (Thanks to TM Edward - Boy, technology is simply amazing!), while the variety of foods were already served at the corner. Although the decoration was rather simple, but everybody could feel the sense of 'celebration' right from the start.

At 7PM, the President (ACB Niken) started to open the meeting and introduced the Toastmasters of the night, ACB ALB David Pranata. That night, the agenda was rather different as the meeting was a special edition meeting!

First, we had an uplifting opening address "The Spirit of Toastmasters" by the co-founder the club, ACG CL Boon Yong. He reminded each of us about the real deal of Toastmasters, to keep having the spirit of Toastmasters and pass them on to others, no matter where you are in terms of project and title. Although the founder (CTM Dave) was not able to attend, through the opening speech Toastmaster Boon gave, we've got to know the 2 men behind the club and to be inspired by their value and action over the years.

Second, we had a game session led by our Table Topics / Game Master, ACB ALB Martin Hendriadi. For this, we divided ourselves into 2 groups. The first game was "Stranded on an Island" and the second game was "Pictionary". Everybody was so into it and before the third game was started, the time was up ~_~ However, the good news was, the winning team was awarded with special something + boxes of Ferrero Rocher ^______^... Ahh, we would never get enough of game ;)
Action

Third, we had the one and only prepared speech speaker: Toastmaster Nur delivering BM#3. Although the objective of this project was to get to the point, TM Nur sucessfully persuaded people to do what he suggested us to do: TRAVEL. He read many books, but the experience to see the real thing by travelling was irreplacable. He got to learn priceless things and got beautiful memory to embrace in the future. "I love coffee and drink it everyday, but I would never forget the taste of cappucino in the morning in Paris. I saw there were couples exchanging kisses in front of the Eiffel Tower and the train had just passed by".. OK people, let's travel =)

Next, we had our seasoned Toastmasters, DTM Arlan Setiawan telling us about "Flash Back of Surabaya Toastmasters". A picture is worth a thousand words, indeed!.. We all reminiscing the Toastmasters then. It's so refreshing too see what the earlier members experienced then and what has changed now. Thanks to all of us, after a few years, we could recruited more female members and so the atmosphere can be enjoyable for any people attending the meeting ^^... No matter what, looking at the pictures, it was apparent that the Toastmasters spirit has been gladly maintained throughout the time.. Yay!!

Finally the ACB Niken gave the closing speech for the very last time being the President 2009-2010. At this occasion she admitted how grateful she was to have found such a supportive club that has helped her to learn at ease. However, serving as an Exco made her realise that there was always things to improve. For herself, she felt the need to tune the way she delivered speech, not to perform, but to communicate. Also to know that learning never stops and although there is low & high time, being Toastmasters means helping each other and helping yourself.
Leaving

Thanks to all dedicated seasoned Toastmasters, committed Excos 2009-2010 and enthusiastics members, we have helped each of us and ourselves to be better.  For now, let's keep the spirit Toastmasters in each of us and welcome 2010-2011 term! ^___________^

Until our next meeting on the 23rd of July 2010 and let's not miss out the grand induction of the Exco 2010-2011 team =)

MoM 23 June: Can't Live Without.....

Do you know what President Obama can’t live without?... I googled the answer and found that he can’t live without “The Entourage” and “The Wire” .. These are TV series at HBO.. How about you?... What can’t you live without?
“Can’t live without...” was our meeting theme that night... And as usual, before we enjoyed the main dishes (prepared speech session), we were entertained by a creative Table Topics session led by ACG, CL Boon. This time the rules were bit different: Every participant was given a picture and had to explain the exact details of the picture, without actually mentioning the thing... Very challenging to participate and very fun to watch!... The very session was praised by many visiting Toastmasters (TM Cithra, TM Hizkia, TM Nur) and guests (Shelly, Ayok, Dewi, I Made)... The Table Topic session was a delicious appetizer indeed! ;)
Best T/T Speaker: TM Cithra (Visiting TM - Eagle)
Next session, we moved to prepared speech session. Although we only have 2 speakers then (1 cancelled at last minute because of emergency), we had 2 great speakers that evening. The first speaker was a visiting Toastmasters, TM Nur who did BM#2 (Organize Your Speech) titled ‘The Silent Thief’. Many of us looked serious when TM Nur threw his 1st half of the speech saying that the silent thief was everywhere and was there in the room with us. But we became more relaxed when the thief was actually ‘inflation’ and interest built up when tips to beat inflation were shared. TM Nur was evaluated by CC Rina Lukiandari
Best Speaker: TM Nur (Visiting TM - Academia)
The second speaker was CC Rama, the TM who couldn’t live without L.O.V.E. because love makes the world go around ^________^. At the meeting, CC Rama delivered his 1st storytelling project (Folk Tale) with a title “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. During his storytelling, all eyes were on him and much laughter heard during the 7-9mins session. That night we discovered that CC Rama was no ordinary man. Besides the new revelation that the macho TM has such soft side, we all agreed how good a Dad he was through his skilful storytelling. CC Rama was evaluated by DTM Arlan Setiawan.
During the President’s time, we’ve got to experience President’s election for 2010-2011. After that night, we are pleased to announce that Surabaya Toastmasters’ future would be bright as the club will be led by CC Rina Lukiandari, our heart and soul for the club.
Best Evaluators: CC Rina & DTM Arlan
As a closing, our Incoming Division Governor, ACB ALB David Pranata shared an exciting news as the famous Gerald Green, DTM, AS  is coming to Surabaya to conduct his 2nd workshop, after the success of his 1st workshop conducted in March 2010. - "You can look good. You can look smart. You can have all the knowledge in your head - but if you can not tell it... You can not sell it" - Don't miss out the chance to learn from a true leader. Check it out the details here: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/note.php?note_id=105954549453916
FYI, next meeting will be a special one, celebrating Surabaya Toastmasters Club’s birthday.  It will be more fun as we have special game session included on the agenda. Hope you see you there and let’s party then ^^

* An Exciting Trip with Toastmasters *

Writing contributed by TM Indah (Area G1 - JEGEG Toastmasters)
Div G's representative (Table Topic Contest) to MIRI

My name is Dwi Indah Wahyuni. I am 32 years old high motivated woman living in Pare, Kediri East Java with perfect caring husband and 4.5 years old beautiful cute daughter. I’m dealing with hundreds students from Sabang to Merauke, all around Indonesia who have strong willingness to get better English at the Daffodils speaking classes.

I want to improve my communication and leadership skill, so joining Toastmaster is the best option. Officially, I signed up in March 2010 and has become a member of JEGEG club ever since. I was lucky to be the winner in division G contest and so I got myself ready for the International contest May 22nd 2010 in Miri Malaysia. Together with another 5 distinguish fellow toastmasters from Surabaya, we had amazing trip, even though I feel little bit sorry to myself when I passed the Immigration office, nearly all the officers asked me the same question “what are you going to do in Malaysia?” Do you work there? Uhfff, well, probably it sounds simple but really Its so irritating. But, the warm welcomes from Miri toastmasters have melted my bad feeling.

On Friday evening, we had incredible welcome night. It was entertaining. We learnt about discipline; because we were late and all of the seats were reserved. It was really only early bird catches the worm. Finally we enjoyed to be vegetarian; because that was the only available one. No harm to be vegetarian anyway, I thought.

Well, Saturday was my day. The show began. I performed the best I could, I was so happy joining table topic competition, because I have learnt a lot and got many experiences. Everybody was doing great but only three contestants deserved to go final, and I did not. But, I was very much OK because it was just about time.

Every single day in Miri is the memorable one. Big thanks to district 51 for incredible moments. Also thanks a lot to Division G for the opportunity given. Thanks also to Papa Green for thinking out of the box, I like your ideas “ if you want to tell, don’t yell”. At last thanks to my lovely friends, Niken, Felisia and the boys. To tell you the truth, I have got many stories to tell and to share since then.

* Small is Big *

Writing contributed by TM Fellisia (Area G2 - Academia Toastmasters)
Div G's representative (International Speech Contest) to MIRI

Small is big. Indeed, that is what I’ve learnt from my trip to Miri. It was a trip filled with pleasant little surprises. Unexpected moments that I would cherish forever in my heart.

At first, I have to admit that I was filled with skepticism as to what this convention could offer. While everyone else was bouncy with excitement, I was jittery with apprehension. Understandable actually, since that was the first time I went to this kind of convention, the first time I competed in International Speech Contest, and the first time I travelled with those people whom I had only known for about a month.

Then, came my first surprise, we would have dinner with the man everyone else had been talking about for months; Papa Gerald Green. My first impression of him: What a sweet man!!! He oozed off such friendliness and warmth that in no time, I felt like I was talking to my own grandfather. We instantly hit it off and after that there was only one thing in my mind: If only he had been a lot younger…(Well Papa, I’m waiting for our second date!)

After that, the hectic schedule of the convention soon cramped into the morning and night sessions but it gave me the opportunity to meet people from other divisions. They were very welcoming, friendly, and yet so experienced. It was a bit daunting to see the numerous pins adorning their suits but once you talked to them, they would be as down to earth as your neighbour next door. Perhaps, there is nothing better to illustrate their conviviality and zest than the uproarious reaction they projected throughout the speech contest.

As we were inching closer to my speech contest session, I believe I turned more and more ghostly because my beloved entourage kept on giving me reassuring looks and asking me if I were okay. Even my normally stern-looking mentor was being especially symphatetic that day. As for me, I could only tell myself to remember the opening line of my speech. Hopefully after a good convincing start, the rest would flow nicely. I was lucky number 6 (it’s lucky because it’s my number) so I waited agitatedly on the edge of my sit. During that agonising wait, I remembered something that my mentor had exasperatedly blurted out the day before: Fel, just think about the message of your speech. What is it that you want to share with them?

With that question in mind, I gradually felt calmer because I stopped looking at it as a competition. I started to think of them as a bunch of people who were excited to hear my story. So, when my name was called, I stepped on the stage with a purpose; to share a piece of my life. Honestly, I don’t know how well or badly I performed that day, but I do know that I’ve given my best and I had tremendous fun. It might sound weird, but I thoroughly enjoyed giving that speech. Probably it was because I knew my comrades from Division G were just metres away but I believe it was also due to the heartwarming response from the audience there. I was simply buoyed by their reaction that it made me deliver my speech with extra oomph.

The gratifying small moments during the convention continued to pour such that I was overwhelmed with bliss. I may not clinch the top spot and go on to the world championship, but that doesn’t bother me. Things like when a lady came over to thank me for touching her life with my story, when we had our night chats despite our heavy eyelids, or when we became expert duck hunters with magic power, are the ones that will always stay indelible in my heart. It is not an overstatement to say then, that I went to Miri with a bunch of friends, but I went home with my second family from Toastmasters.

^ MIRI Convention ^

We've got to say that this is the best convention we've ever attended. Although attending it also made us learnt the 'hard' way about how important to always show up early before the event started, as the order first come first serve really applied during the convention.

Two programs (apart of the contest itself) were simply unforgettable for all of us.

Since the opening ceremony, we were instanly captivated by very sincere, yet inspirational words from the pioneer of Malaysian Toastmasters, DTM Gerald Green (Papa Green). He spoke about our future vision and mission in Toastmasters. He reminded us the meaning of helping each other, being available and being true leaders through the organization.

Papa Gerald Green, Accredited Speaker, DTM delivering his key note "District 51 & 87 moving forward"

Then, we were entertained by a Plenary Session "Where do we go from here", moderated by DTM Dunstan Chan. How amazing to witness 6 of the most influential Toastmasters in D51 discussed the future D51 and D87. Although the way of answering from one panelist to another was very different, yet all of them gave such strong message within the answer. It truly showed how they worked in such synergy to bring D51 to its top position today. The Plenary session was so alive that we felt just like we were LIVE on TV ^^

Host Dunstan Chan, DTM at the Plenary Session

Plenary Session speakers from L-R: Gerald Green, AS, DTM | Datuk Adeline Leong, DTM | Ho Fong Ming, DTM | Sivanganam, DTM | Joseph Gomez, DTM | Ooi Poh Tin, DTM

Although this was the last convention we had with D51, we're glad to experience it.

All the best and until we meet again, someday, somewhere, somehow, our fellow D51 Toastmasters.

The memory was simply unforgettable, the program was enriching and the friendship will always be forever.

MoM 12 May: A Month of May

The theme for the meeting was “A Month of May” and was hosted by none other than our very own VP of Education, CC Rina. The meeting theme was centered around seasons and the fact that this month was a month of growth and new beginnings.

The table topics session, which was conducted by TM Helda, was very entertaining and had several eager participants, who were asked to give impromptu speeches on objects in small bottles. These ranged from peanuts to a ladies wrist watch.

For the prepared speech session the first speaker was our Division I Governor, DTM Arlan, who gave an educational session on how to give a speech. It was particularly useful considering how the opening of your speech paves the way for the rest of your talk.

The next speaker was our Area G3 governor, ACB ALB David, who was doing his Touching Story project, from the Advanced Storytelling manual. His speech was about a young girl who dared to dream a dream about overcoming the many difficulties in her life and making the world just a little bit better … and actually succeeded. He was evaluated by CC Billy, our VP of Membership.

The final presenter for the evening was the Division G International Speech winner and visiting Toastmaster, TM Fellysia, who was doing her Your Body Speaks project, from the Basic Manual. She shared about several defining moments and events in her life which made her into the person that she is today. She was evaluated by our club president, ACB Niken.
The position for best Table Topics speaker for the evening was shared between ACB ALB Martin and TM Andi. The best evaluator was ACB Niken. Finally, the person who won the most coveted award, the best prepared speaker of the evening, was TM Fellysia.

Overall, it was a fun and eventful meeting, not to mention we’ve got an enthusiastic new member on board: TM Andi

MoM 28 Apr: Enjoy Life

What a joyous meeting we had! This time we were exposed to many different and new foods, we never had previously, including Chicken Satay (^yummy^). The meeting theme was simple yet joyous – “Enjoy Life”. It really suited to all of us and helped us to remind ourselves about how we’ve lived our life. As the Toastmasters of the night, we had a cool laid back guy to lead the program, CC Rama Tidball.

The Table Topics session was led by CC Billy Djunaidi, who believes in “don’t think, just do it” motto. Although the motto sounded bit dangerous, but it was perfect with the impromptu talk session, especially to guest participants: Jensen, Andreas, Ferry, and Merry.

There were 3 Prepared Speech speakers. First, TM Ronald began with his BM#6 (Vocal Variety) project. Through his speech, he inspired everyone to believe that we all have hero potential in within. So regardless who we are, we are capable to help to make an impact in this very world. To conclude his speech, he sang a portion of Mariah Carey’s famous song: HERO

The second speaker was CC Niken, who talked on the inconvenient truth about some ‘convenient habits’ in public space. In her speech, she aimed to generate laughter by bringing the issue of cutting nails on train, ‘digging gold’ and indiscriminate fart. By completing this project, CC NIken now achieved a new title as Advanced Communicator Bronze.

The third speaker was ACB CL Martin. He delivered “Speak Off the Cuff” project, in which he had to talk for 5-7mins on 1 out of 5 topics that he was familiar with. What .made it more interesting was the exact topic he talked about was decided on the spot by his evaluator, DTM Arlan Setiawan. On this occasion, ACB CL Martin brought us back to his University year, where he started to gain interest with Japanese Culture.

On top of the prepared speech speaker, after quite some time, we finally had an educational session again. This time, the topic was “Creating the Best Climate” and it was delivered by our seasoned Toastmasters: ACG CL Boon. During the session, he shared many of his experience on how to keep the club’s environment great for everyone attending the meeting.

Before we closed the meeting this time, we had many great announcements:
• Having delivered an educational session in March, now ACB CL Martin has attained a new leadership title: Advanced Leader Bronze. So now, his full title is ACB ALB Martin Hendriadi
• As per our plan in the last 10 months, finally Surabaya Toastmasters (we) have achieved 10 DCP points and will get President Distinguished Club (the highest award for TM Club). Many thanks for everyone’s effort for making this happened and as per our promise, we will celebrate this by having rafting together on Waisak Day

To our surprise, we also had 2 special cakes on that day, prepared by our fellow Toastmasters to celebrate our achievement. (The Chocolate cake is deliiiicious ^^)

MoM 14 Apr: The Magic of Believing

It was a very great evening with a great dinner too. For the first time, finally our club has soup as a dinner!! (^Sayur Asem^). As usual, CC Niken as President of our club started the meeting with her smiley face, then welcomed ACB CL Martin as the ToM of the night.

The meeting theme was “The Magic of Believing”. ACB CL Martin started with a motivational story: “People without goals will have low energy in their life, while people with goals will have overflowing energy to achieve the goals”. Just after that, all eyes were hooked on the venue’s door as a special lady went into the room - Lizza Hendriadi, who is none other than ACB CL Martin’s Mom ^______^

The next session was the Table Topics and it was conducted by ACB CLB David. It was a fun table topic with 2 guests joining it. CC Rina who volunteered at first started the session by telling how she wished to improve her piano skill before she die. Then, our guest, Edward told us his passion and love to music and how he wanted to be a musician if he could be anything in this world. Then another guest, Andi told us about his most favorite place and he told us it would be the place where he can feel the most comfortable at. Last but not least, ACB CL Martin told us his goal to lifelong learning, including becoming a better speaker.

Next, we had our Prepared Speech Session. First speaker was TM Agus who told us about his hardship while he was still child and how could he overcame that problem. Then our second speaker was CC Niken who reminded us to keep being yourself by sharing her story about her “Goldfish Girl” nickname. The last speaker was TM Billy who had completed his 10th speech on that day and got the CC title. He told us his personal story about his decision for his future life. Now TM Billy officially becomes Competent Communicator Billy.

In the middle of it there were 2 more guests coming from Carsurin and EF who came after the prepared speech sessions ended. Next we had the Evaluation Speech Session which was the last session. The evaluators gave the evaluation and feedbacks for all of the speakers.

Because we finished early than usual, ToM Martin asked to have an extra Impromptu Table Topic Session and made everyone else to participate then. First T/T speaker was TM Ronald who talked everything about Manchester United. The second T/T speaker was our guest, Fellysia who told us about her first love and how to play with them – turn out her first love is her cute puppy! And the last T/T speaker was our honorable guest, Lizza. The lady told us about her favourite food – savory bread. After that, the meeting ended right after CC Niken gave us announcement about our rafting date and place info. It was really a great meeting with a lot of great guests there.

MoM 12 March 2010: Go Green

This has got to be the one of the best meetings in the history of STC. Do you know why? First, for the first time, we conducted our meeting in a hotel! Well, not a five-star one, but nice enough as a change in place and atmosphere. The meeting room was spacious, and everyone got their own tables!

Second, we had a wide variety of guests coming from other clubs, other cities, even other countries!

Third, we also had the honor of hosting the Grand Master of Public Speaking, somebody who brought Toastmasters to South East Asia, the first DTM in SEA, and the ONLY Accredited Speaker outside of the US and Canada: Mr. Gerald Green!

For those reasons, the theme for the meeting was "Go Green". We also took advantage of the theme to remind ourselves to keep our beloved earth safe and healthy by conserving resources and say, "Hey, be more friendly to the environment, guys!"

Papa Green, as he's affectionately called, was greeted by loud ovation from everybody as he entered the room with Pak Arlan. CC Niken must have been so excited that she had the extra energy to act as both the President and the ToM tonight.

ACB CL Martin acted as the Table Topic Master and had prepared some tricks up his sleeves. The first speaker was ACG ALB Johan, and TM Martin asked him what the word "green" means to him. Next TM Martin called Gilda and asked her to describe something in his bag only by touching it. Gilda described it to the floor and the audience correctly guessed it as "Aladdin lamp"! Not bad, Gilda. :) The next two T/T speakers were Nur and Arno, and they were each asked to pick a coin from Martin's bag, read out the year, and tell the audience what their most memorable experience was in that year. Arno spoke about his personal experience in the year 1992 in which he was very close to facing a bomb. This earned him The Best T/T Speaker Award. Good job, guys!

On to the Prepared Speech Session. TM Jane Stefanie started off strongly, delivering her speech "Fail with Confidence" (BM#5). Everybody was blown away by her confidence, but the most surprising was when they discovered how young she was! Papa Green, who evaluated her, said "You will go very far." Indeed, way to go, Jane! CC Rina Lukiandari followed with her speech "In the footsteps of the Archeologist Stateman" (AM Storytelling #5). She told the story about Thomas Stamford Raffles, the founding father of Singapore, who happened to spend some time in Java island. ACB ALB David evaluated her speech.

CC ALB Irene came third, but she upped the ante by delivering the high notes on the poem "Meeting at Night: A Lover's Journey" (AM Interpretive Reading#2). Irene really displayed her poem reading talent here that made CC Rama, her evaluator, speechless. He admitted that he had very little experience reading poem, let alone evaluating one, but at the end he delivered another superb evaluation for her. Great job to both of you!

The final speaker was our guest from Bali, CC ALB Miranda. She's working on the same manual as Rina (AM Storytelling #5), but while Rina was talking about a dead person, Miranda spoke about a live one! The star of her speech was Steve Jobs, the genius behind Apple and all of its products that rock the world. Indeed, he's a one-of-a-kind communicator that can electrify the audience like no one else. Miranda was evaluated by ACG CL Yong Boon Kok.

All speakers did such a great job that they deserved an award, but finally it was Irene The Poet who nailed the Best Speaker award. Congratulations!

At the end of the meeting, Papa Green evaluated the whole proceedings, and he gave valuable feedbacks and suggestions. This has earned him The Best Evaluator award for the night! Everybody was happy, and those who had registered for Papa Green's two-day seminar could really look forward to seeing him again the following day.

Hall of Fames:
Best T/T: Arno

Best Evaluator: DTM Gerald Green

Best Speaker: CC ALB Irene

MoM 3 March 2010: Refining Yourself

Our seasoned Toastmasters hosted the meeting this time. Not only he's done a fabolous job with it, ACG CL Boon as the Toastmasters of the night also pickep up the meeting theme that was suitable for all of us: "Refining Yourself"

With the attendance of 5 guests (Agus, Arno, Budiman, Shinta and Nira) the meeting became more lively and enjoyable.

As always, we began with Table Topics session. Like TM jessica on the last meeting, that night the T/T master was also trying a new style of doing T/T session. TM Helda brought 5 different company logos (Chanel, Mercedes, Nike, Playboy, HSBC) and kindly asked the participants to do 1-2 mins improptu talk on it. We were happy to announce that all of the guests that night got a chance to experience this very session.

We have 4 prepared speakers on the night. The first one was TM Leonardi. He was doing his BM#6 - Vocal Variety and shared us about his secrets on staying healthy - regular swimming excersize. With his at ease attitude, he managed to entertain us with many great jokes. He was evaluated by our VP Education, CC Rina Lukiandari.

As the second speaker, TM Billy did his BM#8 - Using Visual Aids and shared us the way to use power point correctly. Although the type of speech was informative, yet he has sucessfully injected humours in between the speech and made people to laugh along the way. DTM Arlan evaluated TM Billy.

TM Jessica gave an inspirational speech on how thankful heart can do wonders - BM#10 Inspire Your audience. This time, TM Jessica explained how different she thought of life now: be grateful on what she has and makes the best out of it. We all were mesmerised with her story, including her individual evaluator, CC Rinda Sukma (VP Education of Dynamics TM). With this completion, TM Jessica has upgraded her title to CC Jessica ^^

Finally as the last speaker, CC Niken did her - Storytelling #4: The Touching Story. She spoke on how we should let a mistake passed by and learn from it, because two wrongs never make something right in life. Our jovial Toastmasters, CC Rama finally got the chance to evaluate such emotional story that reminded him a Korean drama ^^

Our Hall of Fames were:
The Best Evaluator: CC Rinda

MoM - 17 Feb 2010: Valentine Special Edition

It was a meeting full of L.O.V.E. When we arrived we saw lots of balloons, paper flowers and candies. People dressed up with Red/Pink and Blue colour. That night, Kemiri turned itself to a valentine-themed venue and no one went home empty handed.
The meeting was special because we had two gentlemen attending the meeting (Agus and Nur), who got to know our club from Facebook and Blogspot. However, what’s more special was the first Toastmasters performance from TM Billy, who warmed our meeting by allowing us to give affection one to another.

The Table Topics led by TM Jessica. This time, we got to see the making of the Table Topics questions on the spot. As a Table Topics Master, TM Jessica celled 4 participants to write 2 words on a piece of paper and then she used it for question for other participants. Walaahh!

The speakers got the chance to talk on about “Loving Everyone”, “Holding Hands”, “Blind Date” and “Passionate Kiss” ^^

Then we moved on to the game sessions by ACB ALS David and CC Niken. Everyone was showered with Toastmasters related questions, famous quotations; spot the differences games, till guessing game. Did you know that Bu Rudy (Nasi Empal Udang) and Pak Sadi (Soto Ayam Pak Sadi) were involved too?

During prepared speech session, we had two ladies giving us entertaining performances. TM Agatha delivered her BM#2 – a beautiful speech that reminds us the beauty of being a Mother. Then, CC Rina performed her Storytelling project with such interesting characters including a fly, a salmon, a bear, a mouse, a cat and a hunter. With her speech, our VP E persuaded us to keep it simple in life.

During evaluation session, TM Leonardi and CC Rama shared their evaluation on the speaking performance, while DTM Arlan gave his evaluation on the entire meeting.
Our Halls of Fame were: CC Rina (Best Speaker); CC Rama (Best Table Topics Speaker and Best Evaluator). Thanks to the donation from United States of America’s Embassy, the winners for that particular night brought home a free book – Band of Brothers. Did I say no one went home empty handed?

Just before we ended the meeting, we had another reason to celebrate that night. After delivering his persuasive speech on the first week of February, we had a new Advanced Communicator Bronze in the club. Congratulations on ACB CL Martin Hendriadi ^^
What a happy-ending meeting. Happy Valentine day, everyone and let’s continue to share some L.O.V.E

MoM - 3 Feb 2010: Life is Beautiful

It was raining cats and dogs, yet the meeting started on time. At this time, we got to know a New Zealander guest – Charlotte. Her presence boosted our spirit even more. So who cared about the unfriendly weather outside? ^^

Then, our VP Membership (TM Billy) inducted Gianina by bombarding her with ‘difficult’ questions. To conclude, she said “I do, I do, I do” and became Toastmasters Gianina officially.
TM Juwati took the role after Induction and performed her first Toastmasters role. She told us the meeting theme this time was based on the old movie, which always reminded her “Life is Beautiful”. She hoped we’ve got to experience like it and thanks to her endless enthusiasm, we experienced a beautiful meeting then.

During Table Topics session, CC Rina let each of us to get a fortune cookie at first. The lucky one had the opportunity to taste the sweet cookie and to experience “thinking on our feet” when they got the bonus question inside the cookie. The lucky T/T participants were: TM Jessica, TM Nina, TM Rama, TM Niken, Charlotte.

During a prepared speech session, we learnt from 4 great speakers. TM Billy took the lead first and he shared shocking information through “The Dark Age of Japan” (BM#7 – Research Your Topic). He said Japan’s condition in the future could be dominated largely by elderly only due to the extremely low birth rate in the country. Do you know Japan has higher number of pets than children?

As a second speaker, TM Jessica did her BM#9 – Persuade with Power. She raised the bar by asking all of us to be more open-minded about nudity. She showed a couple of magnificent pieces of art to challenge our minds. Looking at such perfectly done nude statue, sketches and pictures - what would you think?

The third speaker was none other than our seasoned Toastmasters, ACG CL Boon. He has finished the entire communication track in Toastmasters, yet we hadn’t had enough learning from him. So we requested him to do another speech and he delivered a touching speech. ACG CL Boon made us to think on how we have lived our life until now, he shared us his personal experience and he closed with a meaningful quote: “It’s difficult to do the right thing to do, but it’s more difficult to know what’s right to do”

The last speaker was TM Rama. He did his BM#10 – Inspire Your Audience. He talked on how important body language when delivering a speech. He began with personal stories then ended with valuable tips to improve our body language. Have videotaped it, then watches it without any sound. If the body language tells clearly about the things you’re talking about, then you’re at the right spot. As usual, TM Rama has never failed to throw cool jokes when delivering a speech and he entertained us while he inspired us at the same time. After finishing this project, TM Rama has earned his new title (CC) : Competent Communicator Rama Tidball. *Hurray*

Since the T/T contest was around the corner, CC CL Martin volunteered to give all T/T participants a short and effective review during evaluation. Then each individual evaluators delivered their evaluations: CC Niken, ACB ALS David, DTM Arlan, CC CL Martin. During GE evaluation, ACB ALS David gave us an in-depth and valuable evaluation on the local clubs.
The Halls of Fames were: TM Rama (Best T/T speaker), CC CL Martin (Best Evaluator) and CC Rama (Best Speaker).

A great news just before the meeting was closed: next meeting will be a special Valentine theme. Be prepared to enjoy a meeting which is full of surprises. Dresscode: Pink/Red for girls and Blue for guys. Until then ;)

MoM - 20 Jan 2010: Hellos & Goodbyes

So, let’s not blame it on the rain the meeting was 10 minutes late or should we? But the fact was the meeting went with so much fun.
The theme prepared by The Toastmasters of The Meeting, TM Pauline was ‘Hellos & Goodbyes’. It is also her goodbye to our beloved club since she has decided to return to hometown – Jambi ~_~.
On this meeting, we’ve got to see a new phenomenon. One of our future members – Gianina – gladly took an ‘impromptu’ role as Ah-Counter. Despite with little preparation, she’s done her job wonderfully and other members couldn’t wait to see her perform more in the future.

Table Topic Session led by TM Rama was really entertaining (as always). This one was a real challenge to the participants as each group of participants should act and talk according to the script the T/T Master had prepared.

On this occasion, we’ve 4 prepared speech speakers. The first speaker, TM Juwati’s talked about “Dewa Klasik Alexander”. All of us had an impression the speech would be delivered in Bahasa Indonesia, while in fact the title was the name of a great person.

TM Anda - delivered his poetic speech: “Unseen Love” and no doubt that he understood clearly what L.O.V.E. meant.

TM Helda shared her experience by delivering her Basic Manual# 3: “Some Wise Thought in Choosing Property”. This information offered useful points for consideration before buying a house.

The last speaker was CC Niken with her speech “They Are Not Him” as part of the project Entertaining Speech #4. The speech reminded us the real life example of like father is not always like soon.

To give everyone of us to learn more from the meeting, we had a very encouraging and constructive evaluation session done by TM Jessica, TM Leonardi, TM Billy and ACB ALB David.

At the end of the meeting, the Halls of Fame were attained by TM Juwati, CC Niken and TM David.
Also our President CC Niken encouraged everybody to venture to the “International Speech” and “Table Topics” Contest on the 31st March 2010. Hopefully there won’t be anybody put into positive ‘blessing in disguise’ kind of entrapment - but onward and say I’m ready!

Surely with the potential sources we will move forward to excellence.
